Communication via Profinet
Ethernet-based* solutions are the communications protocols of the future. ProfiNet is an Ethernet-based solution, which will replace the Profibus DP fieldbus. ProfiNet is available for all Vacon NX products. Brückner Servtec in Siegsdorf in the southeast of Germany chose ProfiNet and Vacon AC drives for a retrofitting project of a film stretching line.

Energy-efficient megaship in the Caribbean
The Oasis of the Seas debuted in December 2009 as the world's largest and most innovative cruise ship, featuring many cruise industry firsts. Turbo blowers save energy in water treatment
Aeration blowers have an important task in wastewater treatment, but their handicap is high energy consumption. Houston, Texas based company, HSI, introduced in early 2008 the air bearing HT series blower, which can reduce energy costs by 20-40 %. Vacon AC drives are used for speed control.

Kaukaan Voima's biomass power plant now in full operation
Kaukaan Voima's power plant, the second biggest biomass power plant in Finland, has been in full operation in Lappeenranta since February 2010. Vacon has supplied the plant with more than 100 AC drives, which control pumps, fans, conveyors and screw conveyors.

Broadbent spins energy savings with Vacon drives

Effective waste water treatment deep inside the rock at Kakolanmäki
A new waste water treatment plant jointly owned by 10 municipalities has been operating at Kakolanmäki in Turku, Finland, since the beginning of 2009. The plant, which has been excavated inside the rock, is able to effectively remove the nitrogen from the water, reducing the eutrophication of the sea. The plant is packed with high technology. Vacon's AC drives control the pumps and compressors.

Vacon helps to bring home the gas!
An 800 kW drive from Vacon, a global leader in AC drive technology, is making the 70,000 tonne liquid natural gas transport ship LNG Abuja much easier to manoeuvre, particularly when it is in port. The drive, which was fitted and commissioned by marine power plant expert Wartsila Automation of Montrose, Scotland, is used in conjunction with the vessel's bow thrusters.

Strong drive for achievement at Talvivaara nickel mine
What does it take to build a mine from scratch into production in six years? Entrepreneurship, a strong drive for achievement, and funds. The Talvivaara nickel mine in the Kainuu region in northeast Finland produced its first metal sulphides on 1 October 2008 - just as planned - and aims to become a major international base metals producer. Talvivaara uses an extraction process called bioheap leaching, which has been shown to be suitable for the sub-arctic climatic conditions.

World's first true hybrid tug sets new benchmark
The world's first true hybrid tug was unveiled in January 2009 in southern California, United States. Named the 'Carolyn Dorothy', the tug is powerful, green and quiet.
